I’m not a prissy, primpy girl. It’s never been my thing to be dressed to the nines, perfectly coifed and spit-polished. I’m mostly the wash-and-go type.
I do, on occasion, like to get a mani-pedi, and three or four times a year I get my hair cut and styled. If I’m feeling crazy I will even get my eyebrows waxed.
By far the most expensive thing is my haircut. I used to go to the salons in Wal-Mart but after twice crying my eyes out over the latest hair disaster, I finally went to a friend’s stylist. The woman does a great job and I’ve had no complaints except for how pricey the cut is.
I know, I know, you get what you pay for.
Well, with the economy in the toilet, and commissions low this year, I haven’t been to see Chantal since right before Christmas. I don’t even know when I last had a manicure, and my eyebrows are crazy.
I am trying to convince myself it’s worth the price, but I decided instead to check out a local beauty school. Their website indicates I can get a haircut and style, eyebrow wax, manicure and pedicure for the same price as I could get the haircut alone at my usual place.
I’m nervous about the haircut. I don’t think I’ll have them do anything crazy, just freshen up what I’ve already got. If I want anything radical done I’d rather to go Chantal.
There is also a technical school in my area, and the massage therapy class does a 60 minute massage for $20!!! I am so there, in a week or two.
I recommend checking out your local tech schools. Ours has massage therapy, auto service, even babysitting for cheap cheap cheap! You can get a gourmet meal for lunch prepared by the culinary school for just $4. Crazy.
