The upside? You get points that translate into Balance Rewards, much live CVS Extracare Bucks (I like those, too). The downside? You don’t earn points on every purchase, which I’m not crazy about.
I made a couple of purchases using the card (or rather, my phone number, since when you sign up online they don’t send you a physical card*) and got no points. Why? I didn’t purchase any items that accrued points.
One day I did get points – 2,000 in fact – because I made purchases on New Year’s Day. I didn’t know I would get any, but my daughter was sick and Walgreens was open. Yay for infant fevers, right?
Well, you may not earn points on every purchase at Walgreens, but you CAN earn points without spending a dime at Walgreens. That’s right – NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. Want to know the secret?
Sign up with Walk With Walgreens and link your Balance Rewards account to your Walk With Walgreens account. You’ll earn 10 points for every mile you walk, up to 1,000 points per month. You don’t have to buy a single bottle of aspirin or a single roll of toilet paper and you’ll be racking up the points!
If you don’t quite walk one mile in a session, log it anyway and your steps will accumulate towards your next mile. Pretty cool! I’ve been taking my daughter out for walks on sunny days and racking up the points towards my next reward.
*You can get a physical card in store after you set up your account online, or you can download the Walgreens app on your phone (Android here) and input your account number for a scannable “card” on your phone.
