I’m not one of those who was all woe-is-me about 2009. I actually thought ’09 was a pretty great year.
2010 started out kind of badly for me, just in a general mood sort of way. I spent New Year‘s Eve and New Year’s Day in a bit of a funk. Thankfully, I am over it now.
I’ve been working out quite a bit, and doing some reading while I do it, which helps the time go by (this is on a stationary bike, not during aerobics or anything). I’m also planning on getting back into the Wii now that we have our livingroom back from Christmas.
The one thing I seem to forget is music. On Wednesday at the end of our monthly departmental meeting, my boss put on some music and asked us all to dance around for a little bit. It was quite fun, and put me in a better mood to go back and tackle my desk again.
I really need to remember that, and find more ways to put music back into my life.
I have been looking for an opportunity to showcase the embeddability (is that a new word?) of Google Voice messages. I got the perfect opportunity tonight.
My dad is a goober, and I love him dearly. He lives in Mississippi with my 13-year-old sister Scarlet. She has no control over him, poor thing.
Anyway, this was the first message he left:
The little thing he is singing is the BC Clark Anniversary Sale jingle (if you click this link, choose the “original jingle” – it’s the best one). BC Clark is a famous old jewelry store in Oklahoma, and you know it is Christmas when they start playing the jingle on the radio. I missed it so much I have the jingle as a ringtone on my phone.
The hippopotamus song he is referring to is “I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas” which is my most favorite Christmas song.
Then he called back a couple of minutes later and left this message:
(I know he sounds drunk, but he swears he is just sick and getting over bronchitis. I can attest that he doesn’t drink much and is usually just goofy.)
Shortly after that call, I had another message:
I did call and speak to both of them and we had a terrific laugh over his version of the song. This is the actual song:
Voice messages posted will the full knowledge of all parties involved. Merry Christmas, Daddy!
It’s the 11th and we haven’t even put up a single Christmas decoration. It feels somewhat Christmasy (and that’s saying a lot for Florida), but I’ve been feeling tight-fisted about cash this year.
Not wanting to spend money on others makes me not want to ask for anything either. And really, it’s ok, because I don’t really NEED anything.
I did have a burst of inspiration today and came up with three relatively inexpensive items that I would like to have this year:
(Don’t worry, this list has already been transmitted to through the appropriate channels, but perhaps someone in your life might like one of the above?)
Despite having to go in to town this weekend and work for 3.5 hours, this was a deliciously lazy weekend.
It rained most of the weekend, so we put off The Great Christmas Tree Hunt of 2009.
I did some reading and worked on some marketing for the site. I also updated some other things I’m working on, but mostly if I wasn’t folding laundry, I was sleeping or reading a trashy novel.
I feel remarkably well-rested and positive today. I even packed workout clothes so I can go to the gym after work. Thank God for friends who have workout rooms in their overpriced housing complexes!
I hope your weekend was a good one. Have a great Monday!
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas around Casa Russian. Last night we got Holly all decked out and put up in the corner. She’s currently twinkling away.
I’ve also figured out that I have WAY too many Christmas ornaments. All of those pretty shiny balls are going in the garage sale I will be having in the spring.
I went Christmas shopping this morning and used up all of my gift cards from last year (except one), buying a couple of things for Irish and Q, and some stuff for myself with coupons (clothes, mostly).
Then I came home and put on the Christmas tree lights and watched Love Actually. This has to be probably my favorite Christmas movie that isn’t really a Christmas movie. It’s just a movie about love, set around Christmas time.
I’m never sure which I like better: the sad story of Sarah and Karl, the loveliness of Jamie and Aurelia, or the cutesy Prime Minister and Natalie. What I can do with out: Billy, the washed up singer.
In any case, that movie gives me the warm fuzzies.
I’ve got a Christmas party on Wednesday night, then two on Friday (one at work and one with friends). I’m thinking maybe the inlaws should come here for Christmas Eve? Will have to talk to Irish about that.
Happy Holidays!
