Please note: I received neither product nor compensation for this product review.  I just thought the product was interesting and I wanted to tell you about it.

A couple of weeks ago while I was perusing the aisles at my local Walgreens I noticed something interesting: Dr. Scholl’s For Her Fast Flats.  They are described as foldable flats with a stylish wristlet.

The price was $12.99.  It’s not an outlandish price, but enough to make me think twice before purchasing them.

Still, it’s a novel idea, isn’t it?  How many times have you been out on the town (I’m looking at you, Fancy-Schmancy Wedding) in a pair of killer heels that left you blistered and broken?  I can think of many times I’ve ruined a good pair of stockings because I had to get out of my shoes!  Walking barefoot through a public parking lot is no treat.

The idea behind Fast Flats is that you can fold them up in the “stylish wristlet” (this is basically a zippered gold-lame pouch with a wrist strap), stick them in your purse and then whip them out when your feet start to ache.

Today I was at Wal-Mart and noticed them stocked in the health and beauty area next to the foot creams.  The price was better there:  $9.97.  I decided to splurge.

These flats cannot be considered stylish by any stretch of the imagination.  They are more of a glorified slipper with one of those cheesy little bows on it.

What they lack in pretty they more than make up for in comfortable.  Inside these stretchy flats is some fleecy material that feels delicious on achy toes.

They won’t win any awards for style but they definitely fulfill a need.

Pros:  Priced right (depending on location), comfortable, functional

Cons:  Not sexy, at all.

My suggestion to Dr. Scholl’s would be this:  Take that “stylish wristlet” and make it into a collapsible pouch.  When I take off my heels I’m going to need somewhere to put them!

The product isn’t listed on the Dr. Scholl’s website, but they do have a Facebook page.

I am probably (ok usually) the last to know about tech stuff, but when I find something I really love, I want to talk about it. I’ve got two of those things today.

NUTSHELLMAIL
I first started using NutShellMail about a year ago. It’s a service that will e-mail you all of the status updates for your social networking sites, all in one big e-mail at the times and days that you specify.

I currently use it for Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and LinkedIn. I get e-mails 3 times a day with the latest information from all of those sites as it relates to me.

Why do I love it? It keeps me from having to sign in to all of those sites every single day. I can keep up without straining myself.

Why am I just now writing about it? Well, today they started a new e-mail format wherein you can comment, reply, even write on someone’s wall right from the e-mail. Before you had to log in to the social networking site or reply to the email to do that. If, like my company, yours has blocked certain sites, you can use this as a workaround. I only wish they had it three days ago when I was trying to win a contest!

OPERA
I downloaded Opera to my Blackberry when I first got it, and haven’t used it much since. It seemed silly to me that the browser window shows a miniature web page and you have to read it in sections.

Last night I finally figured out why that was so useful. I was having trouble making something happen on my laptop in both Chrome and IE, so I tried it in the Opera browser on the Blackberry and it worked like a charm.  It’s very nice not to have to look at a web page that is all scrunched up on the screen, either.

I even downloaded the browser on the laptop and I am figuring out the ins and outs of that too.  I think they call it “Opera” because you sing “ahhhhhh” when you see what it can do for you.

So there you have it, the tech report from a nontech girl.

Shining Through The Trees

I’m supposed to be in the office making up hours today, and I had intended to get up early and go in and get it done, but when I woke up I was still tired and it was raining and I just couldn’t do it.  As long as the hours are in before midnight, I’m good.

Can I tell you a secret?

I cheated on something – the Wii.

I was worried about weight gain from the past couple of months of sheer laziness/holidays and instead of facing the Wii fit telling me how awful I’ve been, I decided to delete my Mii and data and start over.  Actually, I deleted the Mii, then realized it didn’t delete my data from the fit, just replaced my Mii that looked like me with a blonde. So I deleted the data.

Imagine my surprise when I stepped on the balance board for the first time in two months, and my weight was the same as it was the last time I was on it.  I guess my feeling of gaining is mostly just in my head.  No matter, I feel out of control.

I’ve been ignoring the Wii (and the laundry, and mopping) in favor of Farm Town and Farmville on Facebook.  I caught myself planning the harvest of my crops around my recent travel schedule, and realized that the farming was taking up a lot of time in the morning and evening and for what?  I’m not earning money from it, and it’s not making me any more fit, so enough is enough.

I hope you are having a restful weekend.

CALEXICO, CA - OCTOBER 9: Customs and Border ...

I did make it to workout with my workout buddy last night, got gas for the car, and even made it to the library to pay my fine and pick up the book I had on reserve.  At home later I did a few little housecleaning tidbits and a little personal writing, then decided to watch a little TV while I messed around on the internet.

I had set up some reminders for some things I needed to do, and my phone blipped to remind me that I needed to set up a couple of Facebook event notices on our local Mensa calendar, and also research some activities for a Michigan member who will be here in December.

POP! from outside.

All the lights went out.  Everything went out.  Transformer blew again, but this is the first time this year, that I know of.

I was sitting in the dark looking at my dimmed laptop screen, remembering that earlier in the day I had been thinking “we need D batteries for all of the flashlights” but didn’t get them.  So I stumbled around and found the lighter for the grill and lit a couple of candles and an oil lamp.

The electric company was out within the hour, but at 9:40 I ran up to Walgreens to get batteries (they close at 10) and just as I turned off my car in the driveway, the lights came back on.  I love progress.

So, things are getting done.  I’m making small strides every day, though my intention is to make bigger ones than I am actually making.

The good news is, I got the Facebook activities scheduled, and found some events for the Michigan member.  I also went to bed way too late.

Still… making progress.  Must focus on that, and not on what I haven’t done.

We had a small taste of fall here in SWFL last week, and I fell in love with it all over again.  This week, summer has returned with a vengeance, and reminds me once again why there are such things as snowbirds.

My brother will be in town starting tomorrow for OU-Texas weekend.  He’s already planned our menu for the whole weekend, and we’ve got a few fun things planned besides the game (no trash talk this year, we just want to survive the game without looking like complete amateurs).

There will be fishing (not I) and probably a trip into town to see Zombieland, which we are all pretty excited about.  There will also be lots of Wii playing, since I expect the Wii Fit Plus disc (I don’t need the one with balance board since I bought the older version) to arrive today or tomorrow.

We’ll also try to Skype in our other two male siblings and their families for the football game so we can make a party of it.  Irish married into a family of mega-nerds.

In other news, I am currently researching an article for the folks over at I’ve Tried That.  I’ll be testing a new money making program and I will definitely link you over to it once the article is up.  In the meantime why don’t you read my blog post about things you can do right now to make money online that won’t cost you a cent!

I’ve got many more things to blog about including Facebook, Twitter, my magazine obsession, and exciting new career opportunities, so come back soon!
