When we first moved to the house we live in now, we moved our cable service with us.  We are with Comcast, and while we hadn’t really had any problems prior to the move, I wanted to kill them during the process.

I had paid over $100 for the Season Ticket for college football in August.  We moved the second week in September, and three (3) Comcast reps assured me that the service would be included in the move.   A week later when I went to watch the game?  No service.  I was advised by that Comcast rep that because I had moved from a Comcast area to a “formerly Time Warner (now owned by Comcast)” area, I was now considered a new customer and would have to purchase the Season Ticket again, because it was not transferrable.

Except it was, because I threw a huge fit and got my way.

For several years we were on the $99 per month plan for internet, cable and phone.  When the special ran out in March of last year and my bill shot up, I called and was put back on the plan as a courtesy.  Then 3 months later Comcast sent a letter saying they were doing away with that plan and bumping me up to a higher priced plan.

I thought maybe I would take off the phone service, since we never use the home phone.  I was told by several reps that wasn’t possible, until I finally got someone on the phone who said yes, it was possible, but it would mean taking me off the bundled plan.

Fine, whatever, just do it.  So she spent several minutes calculating, and with the lack of bundle credit, taking the phone service off the bill would save me about $2.37 per month.  So we left it alone.

She did inform me that in March 2010 my current bundle special price will end and my base price will end up being over $200, so naturally I am looking at other options.

I could always call and try to get them to keep my current plan pricing in place, but if they say no, I need alternatives.

I’m looking at PlayOn, which would mean leaving the internet and phone service in place (which is possible, though I don’t know what the price would be for that) or perhaps going with a satellite provider.  I’m not sold on satellite because we live in an area prone to severe weather.

Any suggestions?

University of Oklahoma logoI cannot get enough of football, and this season has been… interesting.  My beloved Sooners aren’t doing so hot, though I think some teams wish they had our problems.  We’ve had two losses so far this season, though both were to top 25 teams, and both by only one point.

Last night I was texting back and forth with one brother during the game, when another brother twittered his annoyance with ABC showing the West Coast game instead of the REAL game (OU vs. Miami).  He’s in Phoenix, so it kind of makes sense.

What we decided to do was get connected via skype, then I set the laptop on the end of the coffee table in front of the TV so he could watch with me.  Not a perfect solution, but better than nothing.  And then we lost.

A couple of weeks ago I had the sports tier added to Comcast because for some reason they took it off when they increased my monthly charges.  Go figure.

One of the things that was added with the sports tier was NFL Red Zone.  Today Irish turned it on while I was napping, and when I woke up I came in and sat down to see what it was about.

I think now I know what a seizure feels like.  The action is very fast paced, which I loved, but even I struggled when they would switch game to game play to play.  What a rush!

Actually, resistance isn’t completely futile. I managed to ignore the siren song of the Wii tennis racket, Wii-mote AND balance board tonight.

September 8, 2009 shall go unstickered.

I’ll be back on the horse tomorrow.  I’ve got a regular workout date with a friend after work, and if I feel like it when I wake up in the morning I might get in a few sets of Wii tennis before work.

I did get a few things done around the house: a couple of loads of laundry, gathered up the trash and recycling, and cleaned up the dining room table area (this is a major hotspot in our house – FlyLady terminology).  I had a nice relaxing dinner with Irish, then spent the rest of the evening doing the odd household chore here and there and researching the next book series I want to read.

I just requested the first Savannah Reid mystery and we shall see how that goes. As soon as “True Blood” series finale airs next week I am going to call Comcast and dial back the cable tremendously.

We don’t watch a lot of TV, and our cable bill is ridiculously expensive. Between Hulu and the library DVD collection and PPV I think we can manage just fine.
